I remember the war that wasn't
At least for you
But reading these words
Though it was all too real for me
And I have the scars to prove it too
Because it was painfully true
And ever will be
Which I accept
For humanity's good
At the cost of my own
With every bone
In my old body
Touched by the cold dark shadows
Of a terrible war
That I but waged by myself
For the eternal good
Of all of you
Not that I expect your thanks
I just want you to know
What I did for the good of all
