“Is something wrong Perry? Because the whole staring at me without saying something is very creepy and I don't like being creeped out, so either tell me what's on your mind or just leave, because you're making me very uncomfortable right now.” She said as she crossed her arms above her chest as if I was staring at it, which I wasn't.
I sighed as I sat up and turned to face her. “I finally got a job after not working for a stupidly long time, but it's on Earth E so I won't be back for at least five years and my Mother is not happy about my moving away even though it's the best offer as it's going to pay me the most money.” I said, even though that wasn't any reason for me to have stared at her.
“Can you blame her? With so many Earths that are easier to travel to and from, you still chose to move to the most distant Earth.” She said, not smiling like I'd foolishly hoped she would.
“No, I can't and don't.”
“And yes, it's good that you got a job, because I have wondered how you were able to staying here when it seemed like you were always here, but that doesn't explain why you were staring at me.” She said, still very much annoyed with me.
To make things right with her, if that was even possible, I was going to have to tell her what I thought of her, which wasn't going to make things comfortable between us because she didn't feel the same about me as I felt about her. “I was staring before because I like you, even though we've never talked beyond the odd times we've passed each other in the hallways or outside with one of us coming and the other one going.” I said, as quietly as I could given the distance between us.
“Oh, you do.” She said frowning, like that was not the news that she needed to hear.
“Look, I know you don't have the same feelings about me that I have about you, that's just not the way that it's worked for me in forever...” I said, not wanting to say how long it had been since I'd had a normal relationship with a woman that didn't include me travelling by way of the worldwide speed rail that was faster than the airlines of grampa's time, it was still a pain in the ass that I wouldn't had to have dealt with if I had connected with someone local, like Nadine. “...but I knew once I creeped you out, I had to come clean or you'd be bothered by our proximity for the last seven months of my time on Earth C and I didn't want to do that to you.”
“Which you didn't want to do of course because you're a dork and talking to women is not your thing at all.” She said as she sounded less annoyed by me but her face didn't match her tone.
