The eyes but stared out of the water
And they were big
And even scary
With an unknown level
Of intelligence to them
And I wondered if
This was the beginning
Of something terrible
As they weren't the eyes
Of normal animals of the Earth
Though I'd never experienced
Such a strangeness
That seemed but straight out of a movie
But I wasn't imagining what I was seeing
And openly wondering
If something awful
Was about to happen
Only made sense

I turned to leave
Anxious to go home
And forget about what I'd just seen
Because I could still hope
That I was wrong
And there was nothing strange
About the eyes in the water
Because I didn't know anything
About the animals of the world
So this could just be
My own imagination
Making me think
What wasn't no

But I heard the sound of a voice
Coming from the bushes
Just behind me
“Don't you move
As they're at their worst
When they are silent”
She hissed at me
Quite angrily
And I didn't know what to make
Of what she was saying
Because I wanted to believe
That there was no strangeness here
In spite of what I first thought
About those eyes

“What are you talking about
You sound crazy
Suggesting there's danger here
And that I should stay
When I have to go”
I hissed back at her
Though truth be told
I didn't have to
It was just a want

“Oh I'm not crazy
I saw a man die
When he thought that he could leave
When a tentacle came out of the water
And grabbed him by the head
And stole him away
Like he was a tasty little snack
That it couldn't ignore
As he was gone in seconds

So unless you want to die
You'll stay where you are
And only move
When I tell you that it's safe”
She continued to hiss at me
Like she was afraid
For my own safety
When she didn't know me from Adam
